Becoming a real-life father has allowed Brian Krause to develop a close
bond with Jason and Kristopher Simmons, the twin brothers who play baby
Wyatt. "There's always a lot happening on our set and dozens of people
running around, so I try to make sure that whichever baby is on set with
us at the time feels comfortable," says the actor. "Before shooting a
scene we'll sit down and play with either child in order to make it seem
like they're just over at a friend's house and not a sound stage. Both
boys are cute as well as extremely curious about everything going on
around them. They make it very easy for me to feel like their dad or big
brother."
The Kids Stay in the Pictures
Like most first-time mothers to be, Maria Simmons was nervous about
becoming a parent... but she had no idea that she might become the mother
of twin actors! "Of course, it was a shock when I found out I was
expecting twins," she jokes. "So after doing some research on the Internet
I decided to join a club for mothers of twins. I only went to a couple of
meetings, and it was after that when a talent agent phoned me. He had
spoken with this club and explained that he was trying to cast newborn
babies in various TV and movie projects.
"Jason and Kristopher were around five months old and I took them on a
couple of interviews but nothing came of it. A couple of months later, an
audition for Charmed came up. I was working full time and couldn't get off
work so I begged my husband Robert to take them
Says Robert, "I was against going to the audition. I used to work in the
business doing lighting and effects, and I knew there would be a ton of
people there. I told Maria it would be a waste of time. Even so, I took
the twins in and, much to my surprise, they got the job."
Originally, the Simmons twins only appeared in two episodes, including one
where baby Wyatt is baptized. Maria and Robert thought that was the end of
their Charmed experience, but during a casting call for older toddlers,
Jason and Kristopher were hired once again and have been a part of the
series ever since.
"Usually they'll need one of the boys in the morning and then the other
one in the afternoon. It all depends on what they're shooting that day,"
explains Maria.
Continues her husband, "What impresses me and Maria the most is how
genuinely nice the show's cast and crew are to us and the twins. They even
had a birthday party for them recently. The boys are close to Holly and
Brian, both of whom are so good with them. Honestly, my wife and I
couldn't be more pleased with how things have worked out."
