The guardians of Pandora's box are suppossed to protect it from being opened by demons. They are chosen beings, part of a magical lineage. In every generation a girl is born, meant to guard Pandora's Box.
Each girl is trained by the previous guardian and instructed carefully about the dangers and powers of the Box.
If a guardian dies the box moves on to the next one.
However if the next Guardian hasn't been born, there
won't be anyone around to guard the box or put released evil back in.

Pandora's box was a gift the gods gave Pandora when they sent her to mankind. It contained all of the evils of the world, until Pandora unleashed it on an unsuspecting people.
If the box gets opened, sorrow, famine and plagues will be released again.
