Niall Oldman Niall is the son of Merlin and Nifein (also known as Nimue), the enchantress. Merlin was Artur's most trusted adviser in the early years and a druid. Niall believes she went to Merlin. Niall was raised at Caer Annyl, by a noble family close to Arthur. He was taken while taking a ship acroos the mouth of the river Severn. Diana S. Jones Diana is the high priestess of a group of "druids". Diana has some powers of her own and wants more. Though Niall has no active powers Diana believes there are powers in his blood. Diana believes that a child from Niall will have Merlin's power and she could control it. She tried to force Niall to cooperate, so she could conceive. If Niall was not sent back at the strike of midnight on midsummer's day he would have to die. Maklik, demon He has a hideous, ridged head, with two small horns spreading from its forehead Beltane Before Arthur banned it every midsummer's day a ritual was practiced. Some call it Beltane nowadays. It celebrates the union of the Sun God and the Queen of Summer. A man is chosen to represent the Sun God. A woman represents the Summer Queen. They are prepared with spells and chants for 12 days before. Then on midsummer's day they are anointed with the ritual oils, clad in the ritual robes, and brought to the standing stones. The purpose of the rite is to make a child. To renew the year at the moment when it starts to wane. The ritual also calls for a human sacrifice. Caer

| Random quote: |
Diana stood with her eyes closed and her face turned up to
the darkening sky. Three or four women fussed around her, adjusting the
robes and scarves. She is so theatrical! Phoebe thought. Dislike boiled up inside her. "What is with the Stevie Nicks look?" she whispered to Piper. |

One might have hoped for a story dealing with the clash of
medieval and modern lifestyle or some embedding of Arthurian legends. But
no .. even the trip to Camelot lasts about only few pages. Nevertheless there is enough tension to keep you reading till the end if only to see how the mess is solved. |
