Title: Mystic Knoll

Creatures: Mystic Knoll might have been a fort for a village, and is set up as an astronomical calendar. The original inhabitants either died out or evolved into a Native American tribe of the Iroquois.
The stones are positioned to align with sunrise and sunsets druing the spring and fall equinoxes and the summer and winter solstices.
The place
attracts concentrated fragments of raw magic which interacts with electromagnetic forces causing an abnormal behaviour of the wildlife around it.
The stone configuration also absorbs and amplifies power

Abigail Thornwood was a dark practicioner who had the ability to extract powers from the ether at Mystic Knoll. She used the power of Mystic Knoll to curse her daughter Harriet one month before she was born. Harriet will become the instrument of Abigail's revenge on her old tormentors and their children. The curse was cast during an eclipse so the Elders could not know of it.

Jersey devil
It is a colonial myth from 1735. A woman who was suspected of being a witch was so furious about having a thirtheen child, she swore she'd give birth to a devil. The child was born normal but almost instantly grew into a beast with bat wings, a horse's head and a dragon's body.
It poisoned rivers and lakes and brought other pestilence and hardships to the Pine Barrens of New Jersey. There have been unverified sightings of the beast over the centuries, usually as a harbringer of shipwrecks and wars.

Harriet Thornwood was born on 19 May 1985. 20 years later her mother's curse started to transform her. She became a jersey devil with thick arms with scales and shortened forefeet and claws, powerful hindquarters and a tail. Ribbed, leathery wings allowed her to fly. The face looks like a cross between a dragon and a seahorse with yellow reptilian eyes.

Spells: to curse an unborn child into a jersey devil:

Cast from creatures of the night
Fang and claw, leather and flight.
Two times ten shall pass before
They know my vengeance, hear us roar.

to complete the curse and transform into a jersey devil:

Cast from creatures of the night
Fang and claw, leather and flight.
Two times ten has passed, the core
of her vengeance waits no more.

to uncurse Harriet:

Be gone cursed creature of day-night
Fang and claw invoked by spite
Two times ten has now passed
The child will be herself at last.

Summary: All vanquishing and no play makes for tired, grumpy Charmed Ones. Paige decides that what they need is a family getaway. She'd love to explore her witch heritage in Salem, but Phoebe and Piper vote for a relaxing beach trip. Luckily, Leo points out, they can do both. They'll spend a day or two in Salem, then the rest of the time on the beautiful Massachusetts coast.
It seems the girls have gotten a break from evil - but late flights and wrong directions conspire to sidetrack the travelers, and they find themselves hungry, exhausted, and nowhere near Salem. They happen upon a bed-and-breakfast run by a crotchety old woman and her strange, shy granddaughter. They're not your typical innkeepers, and soon Piper, Phoebe, and Paige find that nothing in this small town is typical. It looks like a working vacation for the Charmed Ones.

It takes quite long till the action kicks in and unless you have a memory span of about 2 pages the repeats of the theories are annoying and useless.
If you manage to read through the first 2/3 of the book it becomes quite ok though.
